After Zygzag or Fishmouth decided to remove the plates he had inserted into his cheeks, he found out it came at a cost, as after they were removed he discovered he had lost a lot of the use of his mouth as well as his eyes.

Even be body modification standards Zygzag is an extremist, but to go to this level to get attention and to harm yourself doesn't make much sense to me.

What will he do now that his 15 minutes of fame are over and he's left with these types of problems, along with ugly scars from his practice?

Some looking to go the body modification route should consider the consequences if they're going to try to stretch the limits of the practice. Zygzag has found out the hard way.

The Psycho Cyborgs, with Samppa Von Cyborg is one of the most bizarre group of people and entertainers I've ever seen. They take things to the absolute limit in their so-called performance, and everything you see is done.

Included with their act are electric currents, needles, screw and hooks, among other things, and it's as weird and strange as it sounds, as you can see from the photos, which are tame in comparison to some of the others you can see here.

Evidently the goal of the group is to recreate the feel of a brutal slasher film, giving it a look or reality to the audience.

People have quit the troupe because of the actual pain needed to endure their hard core tricks.

Extreme Body Modification

Body suspension has become one of the more extreme forms of body modification, and it hurts just to look at it.

There are tons of reasons given as to why someone would participate in this, reasons like meditation to gain a higher level of spiritual awareness, or to celebrate a major event to turning point in their lives.

I don't know though. They may be the stated reasons, but because they allow themselves to be photographed, it may be nothing other than getting attention or someone that wants to hurt themselves; a common response to pain.

Either way, this is a growing phenomenon that is definitely here to stay.

Dubbed the 'tattoo anthropologist,' Lars Krutak spent four years traveling around the world in search of unusual tribal tattoos, scarification and body modification rites of the few tribes left in the world.

In some cases Krutak partook in the rites and the tribes gave him some tattoos or scarification marks on his body.

He has a show on the Discovery Channel called "The Tattoo Hunter" where it unveils the journey he took to discover the practices of the remaining tribal life on hte earth.

The Thai Vegetarian Festival has to be one of the more extreme out there, and it shows in the picture included, as many participants go through extreme body modification to which "purifies minds and bodies."
I think I'll stick with prune juice.

Besides getting the cheeks pierced with a variety of objects, other practices are being spiked in the body, walking on hot coals, and climbing ladders with bladed rungs on them.

Many of the participants are in trances as this happens.

Devotees believe they will receive good fortune for observing these practices.

When Julia Gnuse knew she could look like a monstrosity after a skin disease devastated her body into a bunch of boils and scars, she decided to take matters into her own hands and have her entire body tattooed.

Julia Gnuse was born with a disease named porphyria, in which blistering boils would emerge as a result of contact with sunlight. Those blisters produce scars, which of course can deform the body and face in unfortunate ways.

As a result of her tattooing, Gnuse is cited by the Guinness as being the woman with the most tattoos in the world, having about 95 percent of her body covered, which includes her face.

With so many tattoos, she has become known across the world as "The Illustrated Lady."

She is of course using the tattoos as a means of covering up the scarring, although they do nothing to keep the skin from continuing to react to the sun.

Piercings | Woman's Piercings Attach Metal To Her Back

Piercings

Many piercings, especially extreme piercings aren't very flattering at minimum, and most are made to shock.

While the metal piercings done on the back of this woman definitely qualify for extreme, there is also an aesthetic side that is pleasing to look at.

If you were to look close up, the metal is actually bolted to the back of the woman in pieces.

This body modification I would really call art, but I do wonder what happens is she sits down and leans back against a chair, or forgets and presses her back against a wall.

Now this would be a good image to include in a character in a film or TV show. I especially like the 3-D look in the middle of her back.

In one of the more bizarre body modifications I've seen, this looks like a Hugh Jackman, Wolverine wannabee.

The least the guy could have done would have been to have put his hair in the style Wolverine wears. At minimum that would have added a cool element to it.

Also, if he tried swiping those things at anybody, his hands would suffer more damage than those he would have tried to scar up.

Sorry, this just doesn't do it for me. Retract the claws. Whatever you were attempting to say or do by doing this to yourself, it doesn't seemed to have worked.

Extreme Body Modification

Most people have probably seen a photo and video of lizardman, who has created a career out of his evident desperation to be noticed; and need for fame.

Some of the things he's done to modify his body have been tatoos, splitting his tongue, shaping his teeth and implants.

For whatever reason, turning himself into a freak doesn't bother him, but has been very profitable, as he's been books at a variety of shows and festivals around the world.

Maybe the best thing you can say about it is it maybe beats a 9-5 job.

This is close to getting as extreme as you can get, and an increasing number of people are entering into "hanging" around, saying it somehow is a purifying experience.

I'm not too sure about that. What is being purified and how?

To each his own I guess. But this has a lot of things that could go wrong, and it could mess up some things permanently, especially with those that enter into suspensions that are very risky.

What do you call something like this? It looks like the guy got beat up by the "Alien," and then the mob got hold of him.

I'm not sure how this was done. Was it a combination of modification and tattoo?

We can never know what motivates people to take what they do to the extreme, but as you can see in this photo, this is as extreme as it gets.

Other than being photographed and getting attention as an oddity, what else could be the reasoning behind this?

I wonder if a tattoo parlor would even take in the person as a worker?

I mean, where do you go to get a job?

Do people get neglected so much that they go to these extremes to get attention? Quite a cost if you ask me.
